Basalt is a rock formed by solidified lava. The stone is rounded and dark in color and particularly basalt from Skåne, Sweden is completely black. Basalt consists of dark, small minerals and is smooth on the surface. The black basalt was formed 175 million years ago when there were volcanoes in the Skåne area.
