The comb starfish lives in the North Sea. You will find it especially washed up along the west coast of Jutland. It lives on small mussels swallowed whole are digested in the stomach, after which the shells are spit out again. The starfish has wide arms, a large disc and well-developed edge plates, which on the underside have a “comb” of pointed spikes. The comb star fish can grow up to 12 cm and is in the color pale orange-violet.

The comb starfish is a fast runner. It can move up to 60 meters in an hour and it almost “runs” over the seabed at the tip of its suction feet. Common starfish has a speed of 3-5 meters per hour.
