The flounder is found all over the Danish waters, and you can find it dead on the beach, or living on shallow water, where it is actually possible to “step down flounder”, that is to catch them with bare feet. The flounder starts its life as an ordinary fish, but gradually one eye wanders about on the same side as the other, and the fish lives the rest of its life on the side. The flounder is right-handed, with the right side facing upwards, where the piglet is left-handed. It is most active during the dark hours of the day, while hiding on the bottom of the day. It changes color according to the color and texture of the bottom.

Did you know that:

Flounder is rarely more than 30-40 cm long, but in the past (before the fishing was so extensive) they could grow up to one meter and weigh up to 7 kilos.
