The eel pout is a fish known on its elongated body and relatively large head. It rarely exceeds 35 cm and is not related to the eel despite the name. The eel is one of the few fish that gives birth to live cubs, where most other fish spawn their eggs. A litter with eel crabs can count 400 small fish or more. Eel crabs can survive outside the water for short periods of time as they can breathe air with the gills.
Did you know that:
The eelpout skeleton is green, like the other hornfish, but it is not toxic. There are several theories as to why the skeleton is green, and the most likely is, that it is used as a camouflage in that when the fish are born, they are transparent for the first time due to the skeletal color.
