Limestone is made up of shells from animals. The individual lime shells can be so small that you cannot see it with the naked eye, but in limestone you often find fossils such as sea urchins, cephalopods and mussels. There are both hard and soft limestone and they are found at all Danish beaches, but the chance to find it is greatest at Møn’s cliff and Stevns cliff.

Did you know that:

Limestone often has large round holes that are drilled by the so-called drill mussels. The small cavity holes are made of drillworm and the small round holes are made of the drill sponge.
