Porphyry consists of solidified lava and originates from volcanoes in Norway and the Baltic region. The rock species has been transported to Denmark with huge ice blocks during the ice age. It is estimated that porphyry from the Baltic Sea is 1.5 million years old, but those from Norway are 250 million years old. Porphyry has a uniform matrix and round or oblong spots in another color. The matrix is gray, black or brownish.
