The pelican foot auger has a tall, pointed spire and a very characteristic growth at the narrow, elongated mouth. The outgrowth looks a bit like a bird of prey, which has given the snail the name. The skull is very solid and yellowish, cream colored, reddish or purple. The pelican foot auger lives buried in the seabed, from which it drills two channels up to the surface, so that water can circulate through. The snail lives buried in soft sand at depths of up to 100 meters.

Did you know that:

Due to the solid shell, the adult pelican foot auger has virtually no enemies.
